KOREA BECOMES INDEPENDENT NATION General of the Army Douglas MacArthur, Supreme Commander for Allied Powers, (Left) and Dr. Syngman Rhee, Korea's first President, warmly greet one another upon the General's arrival at Kimpo Air Force Base, at the invitation of President Rhee. The General and Mrs. MacArthur made the initial trip to Korea, to view an auspicious occasion which spelled freedom and independence for the first time in over forty years.NARA FILE#: 111-SC-306875

Date MUST be wrong: 1944 not a correct date for this photo. Then, the Japanese owned Korea. McArthur would not be in Kimpo!!!

Syngman Rhee was in exile during the occupation; he returned to Korea in October of 1945.
